Sunday Night at the Palladium

Postby chenrezig » 09 Sep 2014, 11:42

I have posted this here as it will not yet be in the paper Radio Times and I haven't seen any ads on the TV yet ...

Sunday Night at the Palladium .. anyone remember watching it in the 50', 60' and 70's? It is back for a six week run... This one is a must not miss!!

http://www.radiotimes.com/episode/c4z94 ... -episode-1

The host is Stephen Mulhern, and the acts feature - Bryan Adams (he did two songs), Little Mix (very scantily clad and very energetic), Alfie Boe (boy did he belt out "Bring Him Home"), Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek) doing a ten minute slot,  and a couple of speciality acts - an American husband and wife team who did (very) quick clothes change ...

... and Les Beaux Freres - for those of you who haven;t heard of them, they are those two chaps who dance without anything other than a bath towel (and later on one with only a little flannel), they really do not have anything underneath !!!

How do I know what they did, and about the flannel? Our knit and knatter group got a mysterious e-mail a few weeks ago asking if anyone was interested in a trip to London with a coach laid on free .. I thought why not? The next week we were told it was a "family show", last Thursday we found out what it was - the relaunch of Sunday Night at the Palladium!

The only drawback was that we would get back to Norwich about 1am on Monday morning ...

Well, some of use decided to go for it, and we weren't dissapointed - coffee, tea, and biscuits were laid on for us and another group from mixed martial arts club - we were introduced as the "nutters from Norwich" - in my case probably true lol lol We had a brilliant time, even getting there on the coach was great as we went past so many tourist sites on the way ..

We saw the poppies at the Tower of London

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RUGNYKxTvg

and had a ride along the River Thames

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-qaLDPfVoo

It was fascinating watching them organise it, and all the cameras etc  - I now appreciate all the hard work that goes into making a show like this even more...

PS.. at one point in the evening the two chaps with the towels were sat beind me n my friend!!

I am sure one of them did nearly drop the towel as I looked at Joy n she looked at me, not for too long as we didn't want to miss anything ! lol lol

I won't say anything else about the gags in case I spoil it for anyone who watches, but a couple of our knitting ladies got involved but I am not sure those bits will be on the programme as I can't remember whether the "warm-up man" who was very good himself, or the compare did those..

I don't expect to do anything like that again, it really was a one-off and I am glad didn't "chicken out" after all. I never thought I would have the nerve to whoop, and wave my knitting about like a lunatic - til now so totally not me - I really think it did my confidence a fair bit of good as I am on the quiet side by nature and took me right out of my comfort zone..

I have never liked going for anything new, I tend to "play safe" for want of a better phrase - I think doing last Thursday on the minibus helped as well ... we were told we would have a reporter on  board to find out how we work..  neither me nor Ian knew they were having a reporter as well. I HATE having my pic taken with a "vengance" but wasn't left with much choice so i went with it and really enjoyed it .. so did Ian the driver. Mind, navy blue polo shirt, black trousers and saft boots is hardly elegant .. it should be in the paper this week , I am keen and nervous in equal measure to see how the pics turn out, but as long as it does good for Door to Door I will be happy,

Just to say if you are watching on Sunday night. If you are viewing it from the audience viewpoint, me, and Joy one of the other knitters, are sitting about third row back, on the right. She is waving a knitted doll and I am waving my knitting .. and later on in the show, if they keep the same running order, we had those two gents who do the towel dancing sitting right behind us ..in their towels!

Did they not think your needles would be classed as weapons!! having something so sharp next to a naked man could have been rather painful!!

No doubt we will see you and your friend hanging over the back of your seats looking at the men in their towels!!! i know I would and I bet Mo would to!!!

I watched it, but could never quite catch me n my friend Joy .. but .. I set my camera up on a tripod n taped it, the pictures aren't very good, but I did spot my hand at the start waving my knitting with Joy waving her knitted doll. I have put a white line marking each of us.

And at after Alfie Boe finished singing, I could see the two chaps with the towels sitting right beind us, as they were sitting there so they could watch Alfie Boe sing. I have put an arrow pointing at the two chaps with the towels n Joy in on the left n me on the right.
