What do you do on Saturdays and Sundays?

Postby wendy » 13 Jul 2014, 18:00

The weekends used to be our busiest time on Chill, because carers were stuck at home caring and they would feel isolated and alone.  We kept one another company with support and jokes, etc.
Now days some members do not even visit the forum over the weekend.
This does not feel like support for one another.
Have you found somewhere better on the internet, or are you managing to get out and about?
I would love to know so that we can adapt to what it is you require.

Hi Wendy,

I've been busy this weekend - yesterday I was busy doing paperwork, and trying to de-clutter the conservatory-which has been looking like a tip for too long now, but I came on and chatted to Brian and Pamella, it's a shame that nobody else comes on to chat to us.  Today I've been busy again trying to get my craft room usable so that when Paul falls asleep (like now) I can lose myself doing something creative.  I do look in most days but if not much is happening I don't post.

Hi Wendy  on Saturdays I try and meet the girls for lunch and then we go food shopping

Today we went to watch my granddaughter Rebecca and two of her friends who ran the race for life today

These last few weeks there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day,it must be because I have to do

Everything  stan can't even do a cup of tea because of his balance

I was hoping that everyone will reply.
this would be a great help to me.  I am working very hard to try and save chill for all of us, and I need to know what is happening and what works and what does not.

When I was caring for dear Dad, we would go into the city, his health permitting as he did like being out and about as much as possible even when he had to use a wheelchair, that would be any/all days of the week when he felt up to it.

Now, Saturdays tend to be meeting my friend who has to use a scooter to get about, and when her dear hubby feels up to coming in I push him in his wheelchair.

Sundays, some times spending time with family, other wise it is the day I do my housework, and maybe go into the city for a coffee somewhere and back home just to break up the day if I don't have any company...

My weekends are really no different than during the week. I do try & start a new post every day, regardless of what day it is.

I'll see what I can talk about to start a new post/subject. We have 2 carers come in 4 times a day to wash and dress Paul, change his pads and move him from bed to chair or wheelchair if we are going out at all.  Otherwise it's just us two, though Paul does sleep a lot, and when he does I just do my own thing.  Today we went to the stroke support group and after all the club business the members played a game of Curling, then had a throw about with a ball - taking turns in throwing it to each other.  I've not seen Paul so animated in ages - he really enjoyed himself. He's being put to bed at the moment by the carers.  I bet he'll be asleep in no time!!!  It's good now that I can take him out, and I should soon (fingers crossed) be getting a battery pack on his wheelchair so I'll be able to cope better.  Can anyone please tell me how to put pictures on the posts, I can show you some of the crafts I do, if you'd be interested at all.

Please dont come on and if nothing is happening, dont bother to post.
If we all did that, there would be no Chill.
We are here to support one another, so even if you think your news is boring, it will honestly mean something to someone.
It is a shame more people dont use the chatroom, but it is up to you, if you want to use it, then please let us know and someone will join you.
Jane has very kindly started a day time chat, but if anyone else wants to do something, about a special subject, we are always glad to help.

Yay, I did it, thanks for the info.  I had to resize the picture, but other than that it was easy.

Well done Sheila!! You clever thing ...

Re the powerpack, got one for Dad's wheelchair and it certainly helped me - just remember you have to make sure you have enough charge in it. I forgot to check once and it ran flat in the city - so I had Dad, the weight of the wheelchair, and the powerpack to push - I only forgot the once lol - Just have a good read of the manual first, as no doubt they have improved quite a bit since I used one.

Thanks for that Chenrezig, glad you like the picture. I'll probably put it on charge overnight when we know we're going out the next day

Fantastic picture Sheila.

I would love to hear about your crafts and see some if we could?

Weekends are hard to get a chance to pop in as the girls are off and I try to make sure I spread my time with them and Lee. Sunday is swimming day for Liv and I. Saturdays is time with Sam while Liv is out playing, then the chores!! Never ending!! It's often evening before i have a chance to come in and see what everyone is up to.  With lighter evenings the day seems to have got longer activity wise.

Love the photo Sheila Ann.

On Saturday I normally meet up with a friend for lunch, then shopping. ju098
On a Sunday I do mum's hair, then visit a friend who lives on her own for tea and a natter, then back home to sort mum's dinner out.  :cheesy:
