I have recently read that by sharing our experiences we can someone help other people.
For a few days I have had this memory going round and round in my head, and I feel that maybe I should share it with you.
I have no idea why, I should be here goes.

When I got married in 1965 we used condoms as a form of birth control.  My new husband would never buy any so we had to go for weeks, with doing nothing.
Remember we were newly married, and I always felt that this was not normal.

well I have told you now.

I don't think there is any such thing as normal re sex, every couple will be different regards how often they make love. However, I would have been really put out as a newly wed , it lovemaking was infrequent. Your new hubby sounds like he was a very selfish man Wendy

He does indeed sound selfish.

How very odd not to buy them you would have thought he would be ready for a bit of regularity too. Bit personal.... but how did you know when you could do it with out pregnancy?

Men are very funny creatures I think!!

I wonder what my grandmother would have thought of femidoms ans all they the contraception available these days.

there was nothing available except condoms in 1965.  I went on the pill in 1967 after being in hospital for 3 months with TB
I actually had no choice.

I  was on the pill in 1965 Wendy, what peace of mind it brought!!!

It is just so much more spoken about nowadays.

It isn't uncommon for girls to carry their own condoms.

I must admit when we had Lee done it was lovely. No pills, no coil or condoms!!

That makes me sound like I took him to the vet!!!

The pill has been described as the most significant medical advance of the 20th century.

Hailed as playing a major role in the women's liberation movement, it was associated with the swinging sixties and greater sexual freedom.

But it has caused much controversy over its short life span due to health scares and concerns about teenagers taking the pill.

Introduced in the UK in 1961 for married women only, it is now used by 3.5 million women between the ages of 16 and 49.

That means that a quarter of this age group are using the pill, which now comes in 32 different forms.

Developed by American biologist Dr Gregory Pincus, the pill works by suppressing ovulation.

Tested in the 1950s on Puerto Rican and Haitian women, the first version of the pill contained the hormones oestrogen and progestin, which were synthetically produced to mimic the body's natural hormones.

Take-up of the pill was fast. Between 1962 and 1969, the number of users rose from approximately 50,000 to one million.

In the USA, around 1.2 million women used the pill withing two years of its launch in 1960.

Now the number of users is around 11 million.

Worldwide, around 100 million women take the pill.
