Since Mark got so ill in hospital I have struggled to get on with life and enjoy the time we have together. We have a Do Not Resuscitate form in place now after a long discussion with family and a member of our hospice. The thing I am contemplating is having counselling at the hospice which I have been offered. Has anyone had experience ? I know it's strange to have it when the loved one is still alive and relatively well but I'm struggling with my feeling and living in constant dread of Mark becoming seriously I'll again. Any thoughts would be welcome -thank you xx

Debz if the hospice has offered you counselling I would take it, it could help you in the long term, it's not strange to have it when the person is alive, as a carer the illness of a loved one is in a way a bereavement of a normal life that person isn't able have.

I declined any Counselling because of an experience I had some years ago, it led me down a route that I didn't want to go down that was unrelated to what I went for, but, I know many people have benefited from it.

My advice, like the others, would be to go ahead with counselling in the expectation that you will be helped, with the option of stopping at any time.
I have been wondering for a long time whether counselling would be appropriate to my situation - life is such a trial and difficult to deal with, but I have not yet done anything about counselling, not really sure what to do

I don't know Wendy. I'm scared I suppose. Knowing its available when I feel ready helps me have control. I'm not sure if it is partly due to the counselling being at the hospice . Will keep it in mind once we have the care package sorted out xx

I fear you are going through denial and I have no idea how I would cope, so I cannot say what is right and what is wrong.
But I think you should consider what our members suggest for you, who do have this
experience, e.g. Mo and Annie,
Please listen to them and remember to look after yourself.
