do you think charity shops are getting too expensive

Postby Honey » 03 Jan 2014, 01:19

I wanted a new address book, and the charity shops were selling them at an unacceptable price.
I went on e bay and found a brand new office quality one for one pound  and 50 pence with free postage. it was less than half the price in the shop.

I think they are, some really go over the top, I have a charity shop opposite me (a local animal charity) which I often take items over to, they are quite reasonable -yesterday I wanted an egg cup just for putting my easter knitties on to put them on eBay - I got two brand new ones, boxed for £1 with some chickens on the front. They also have what is apparently called a "boutique" shop in the city centre, and that sells vintage and collectors items - I know the ladies who work in the one opposite me are quite put out by the fact that anything really good has to go to this shop, cutting the amount they raise as they work really hard in the shop.

I know they have to raise as much money as possible for their charity, especially in these hard times, but I think they do sometimes overprice items

it is sometimes cheaper to buy new from Primark than from a charity shop, then another time, you can get a real bargain.

It often depends on the location, but prices vary form charity to charity, there are still many bargains to be had

Charity shops vary in their pricing quite a bit I have found, you can still get a bargain and find something that you wouldn't find in any other shop, we have more shopping options these days with  places like ebay, I have also seen people selling stuff on Facebook.

The ones in Loughborough are quite pricy. I know shops like Primark are making it difficult for them but some of the things are cheaper new in other shops.

I used to get my books from them but supermarkets have brand new and the latest books cheaply too so i have fallen into their trap of not suppporting charity shops and adding a book to my basket.

I feel quite bad about that now I've just written it. I like to support good causes.
