Moving Out

Tommo heard today that he has got a flat in a supported housing unit in Beccles. He signs the tenancy agreement on Monday. He is very anxious and worried about how he will cope. I have got a large lump in my throat. I am concerned about his mood levels. He doesn't want to leave home but I hope this is the best way forward for him, better to get some independence now than be thrust in it should something happen to me. I feel some sleepless nights coming on. We will have lots to organise ready for the move. Oh dear.

It might seem a daunting prospect right now for all of you but in the long term should benefit Tommo once he get use to the new independence, you never know it could be the making of him.
Keep positive, wishing Tommo all the best his new home. o904 goo@@@@

You will worry no matter what we say to you, but always remember Beccles isn't too far away from you.
I expect Tommo will have a mobile phone, to keep in touch with you.
I wish him lots of luck and happiness and I expect he knows what a good mother he has to encourage him to take this challenging step.

It's natural that you worry at this stage but soon you will realise it's the right thing to do. I don't know how far apart you will be but you'll always be in touch and it will be really exciting for all of you to see Tommo getting on well in his new home.

As Mothers we always worry about our children. I do hope that Tommo settles in well in his new flat. I know several people in supported housing, and they all seem to be doing well. Tommo is bound to be nervous at first, but it could be the start of a bright new future for him. Great news. x Jeanne

than999 all so much for your warm wishes. I think reality is sinking in now. We have spent this morning going through Tommo's wardrobe and chest of drawers sorting out clothes. It's a start. We will be able to look round the flat tomorrow so are taking a notebook and pen to list what we need to buy.
We are having a roast lunch soon followed by pavlova, I feel the need to nurture him. I can't imagine why! xmas17 sp0

I will be thinking of you tomorrow on the first step of a bright new future for Tommo. Him being able to move forward and take on this new challenge is a testament to what an amazing mum he has. Without your love and support over the years he wouldn't have the courage to take this step. He learnt that from you my lovely lady.
You will have a lump in your throat but pride and love in your heart as you see what a lovely young man you have brought up be successful in his new life.
I'm sure he will be visiting you very soon with a bag of washing when he runs out of socks!!!! sp0
Huge hugs and support

Tommo has signed on the dotted line so it's all going to happen. I looked round the flat today, it is really nice. Hoping to help him start to settle in at the weekend.

Tommo moved in to his flat today. He had a big wobble beforehand and got really upset but brightened up as the day progressed. It feels really strange and quiet at home without him this evening. Can't help wondering what he is up to and if he has got himself some tea. I made sure he had stuff in the fridge so he shouldn't go hungry. My heart was in my mouth as we left him. What a momentous day. I truly never thought it would happen. I am so grateful to his support workers for getting him thus far. xx

Tommo is settling in well, he brought his washing home and had a meal with us on Tuesday, it was lovely to see him. He spent the first half-hour cuddling Tinker and Horace who were so excited to see him.
He is keeping busy and going to bed early as he is worn out!! I am so proud of him.
I think his OCD will improve as contamination fears will lessen in a couple of ways - he will not be so scared of giving me germs as he isn't seeing me every day and although he is missing the dogs he won't be constantly worried about washing after handling them.
I had my 1st night alone in the house last night as Graham was at work, it felt rather strange and quiet but I slept well, no disturbances from Tommo with late night trips to the bathroom and lights going on and off.
A new chapter has begun for us all xx

That is great news. So pleased he is settling well. Baby steps and what a great achievements he is making.
You were a big brave girl last night. Really proud of how you are managing with this change too. It is being so successful because of the way you handled things over the years and always worked towards this day and helping Tommo through this.
Love and snuggles
