Has the dot.com bubble burst?

Postby wendy » 08 Oct 2013, 15:47

There has been talk this week in the news, that things have changed on the internet.
People are bored, afraid or just losing interest in the world wide web.
What are your views about this?

I think a lot of it is that people have such high expectations from technology these days that if new things don't come out quickly people lose interest.

I do wonder if it is also the fact that the first of the face book generation are growing up and realising just how much information they have divulged and are regretting it?

that is a very good point Jane
I hear people laughing talking about people posting when they go to the toilet, etc on facebook, and the people laugh and become uninterested in the internet.
maybe you have hit the nail on the head, instead of enjoying the benefits of the www, they went to facebook and got bored out of their minds or frightened by security issues.

I think it is Facebook that have killed the thrill of the Internet for some, when I first got the Internet Facebook hadn't been thought of so I think that is why I still find plenty to do on line, I often hear people get laptops and Internet purely just for emails and Facebook and they never attempt to learn anything other than that which is a shame and an expensive means of communication if that is all it's being used for.
There are so many things to find out and learn about on line it is amazing, my curiosity keeps me interested.

another thing to consider is when the laptop or PC goes wrong, the cost for repair is something people can do without in these difficult times.
We have a few members having this problem at the moment, and of course the repair for a laptop has to be a low priority when caring for a loved one.

It's so sad that the cost of repairing a PC and also the time taken to do the work is often more than getting a new one. I got a wireless printer and I couldn't get it working on the wireless. It cost me £40 to get someone out to it and wasted the money as it turned out the printer was faulty!

another reason may have lost interest in the internet is bad broadband.
if it takes ages to download a photo, there is no point in wasting time sitting there for a picture to open.
mine are instant, but I know people who live in Norfolk and elsewhere who cannot see photos.
