I know when you are feeling weak and you are old with no family close by a little kindness is much appreciated.
I do know a younger patient was told off for helping a 90+ lady, because they said she will not get the same treatment when she returns home, so she was spoiling her.
Terrible I think.

I don't see that there is anything wrong with using expressions of endearment , like petal, love etc, unless the person objects

I think it varies which part of the Country you live what is acceptable and use to hearing.
