How do we opt out?

Postby wendy » 27 Feb 2014, 08:52

Does anyone know how to opt out of our NHS records going on line?
Do we write to our surgery or what and has anyone done it?

I had a letter come that I had to sign and take post back.

You can go into your surgery too and inform them apparently.

GPs voice fears over giant patient records database
By Nick Triggle Health correspondent, BBC News

Medical records Care.data is to be rolled out some time after April

GP leaders say there is a crisis of confidence about a new NHS data-sharing scheme involving medical records.

From April, a giant database, Care.data, will be rolled out in England with non-identifiable records to help aid medical research and the monitoring of performance.

But the Royal College of GPs accused NHS England of failing to make the case for the project.

NHS England has said concerns about privacy are misplaced.

The warning comes after patient watchdog Healthwatch England said last week that the scheme should be delayed, as patients had been left "in the dark".

I have checked on my surgery website and they have a form you can print off and take in

This is what it says on mine ...

Record Sharing & Your Rights
You will have recently received a centralised mailshot from the Department of Health covering record sharing of your health records, under the Health & Social Care Act 2008. The HSCIC (The Health &Social Care Information Service) has been directed by NHS England (under the Health & Social Care Act) to make this data collection from practices, and practices are legally required to comply. The Act overrides the requirement under the common law duty of confidentiality to seek patient consent, but the Secretary of State (following pressure from the BMA and others) has allowed patients the right to object.

If you wish to object to the sharing of your data, please contact the surgery to allow us to formally record your dissent to record sharing.  You can also fill in the opt out form below and hand it into the surgery.

I don't know if it a standard form for all GP's but if you click on the link for NHS England Care.Data Opt out Form -there is a form that hasn't got my GP's name on there. I had opted in, but I am taking a form in tomorrow to see if I can opt out -
