It is just me? Lack of customer service ???

Postby chenrezig » 06 Nov 2013, 09:12

Is it just me?

Shops are always talking about customer service ... how many times  have you been shopping and got to the till and there is little or no eye contact at all? Makes me feel like a part or item on an assembly line... I went to two stores this week, Iceland and QD - at Iceland at least she looked up, but at QD .. nothing ! Hardly very welcoming - doesn't really enthuse you with the thought that it is a friendly store ...

Hi

I must say I have always had kind friendly service at our local Tesco store,

they always ask if I need a hand with the packing, some have worked there

for many years so I think it must be a nice place to work perhaps some stores

the staff are not treated very well and so they are not very happy it reflects on

the customers.

gpr  You mention Iceland and QD Liz - We do not have QD here but we do have Iceland and I must say there is not much in the way of customer service as far as I have seen.  Tesco and Lidl are both pleasant places to shop - the only other supermarket here is Asda but it is too far away for me to get there.

In the town centre a new small shop has opened recently and I hoped it would be a good place to shop as I heard they would be selling fresh vegetables from a farm shop.  I bought some leeks but intended to ask them about maybe having vegs delivered, you know how some farm shops make up veg boxes and deliver, say, once a week, that sort of thing.  However I didn't get the chance to say anything as the one at the till held out her hand, told me the price, then continued to ignore me as I gave her the money, handed me change, not a please or thank you, because she was continuing a conversation with the other assistant which seemingly was more important than customer service.  I thought it would be good to support people trying to start up a business but I don't see myself bothering.

Must say I do like shopping in Aldi as I have one very close, Wilkinson are very good to in helping people -saw two helping a elderly  lady up the escalators as she didn't like lifts - one was going up behind her and the second was carrying her walking frame (with wheels) and making sure she knew to ask for help to get back down.

I do like trying to support small local shops  -and I try to get a few more bits on the market than I used to (apart from my usual Wool stall) - hardware, gloves n hats, there used to be a nice second hand book stall but that had to close, and of course "Reggie's" where I have my roll and mug of tea

A lot of this poor customer service is down to bad management of staff and the right training, and they don't always employ people with person skills in the first place.

We stopped shopping in our local Tesco's because the staff were always talking to each other across the tills. But the Tesco home delivery drivers are really lovely and helpful. Our small Sainsburys is great, the staff cannot do enough to help you and even when I was sitting in a seat waiting for George they came and asked me if I was alright and wanted to bring me water. With the local little shops they even come out and ask me what I want and bring my change, same with the fish and chip shop. When people are helpful it makes you more willing to go back. Customer service is so important. x Jeanne

I found that the staff in Primark in Norwich are very blunt almost to the point of rudeness, puts me right off going there. Our local Iceland staff are very friendly, maybe because Beccles is a small rural town?

We have a lovely chap at our Primark. he is very funny and always perky.

I know what you mean about customer service. It is definitely on the decline. I don't go back to shops with grumpy sales assistants.

I don't return to shops with ignorant staff if I can help it. The staff in Booths in Clitheroe are really good
