A parrot who sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to children has been stolen.
Thieves broke into Seeros Day Care Nursery in Rochdale and took Mitoo, a green Amazon parrot.
Mitoo had resided at the nursery for four years and did such a good job he even got a mention in the Ofsted report.
Samira Ansari, managing director of Seeros, said the children had found it “heartbreaking”.
“It’s devastating really. I’ve had him for four years now, he had been at the nursery ever since.
“He was the nursery’s mascot. He used to say hello to everyone in the morning and sing nursery rhymes. He even knew Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
Mrs Ansari, 40, said the children had made posters to put in shops around the area, but to no avail.
“The children, parents and staff were very fond of him. He was even mentioned in an Ofsted report. He became part of the team. I used to take him home over the Christmas period so it was really heartbreaking.”
The nursery was broken into in February too, with IT equipment and some money stolen.
Mrs Ansari believes it was the same people “trying to get lucky again”.
She has bought two parakeets, Ruby and Coco, in the meantime, and has stepped up security.
