Slugs

Postby wendy » 27 Aug 2015, 13:44

Yesterday after the rain I stepped into my garden and picked up 10 orange great slugs.
I put them in some water with salt added.
Ross told me found about 30 last night in his garden.
He put his in a plastic bag , sealed the bag and put it in the rubbish bin.
Is this happening to you and if so how do you get rid of them?

I have tried every deterrent known & none of them work, so I pour salt on them when I find them

They are horrible.
I think hedgehogs eat them though but not sure.
I buy non toxic slug pellets called 'slugs be gone' by pestshield to act as a barrier to my plants.
They don't kill slugs and snails,
They are harmless to children and pets.
They seem to work well but they must be reapplied after rain.
My plants don't get eaten much now.
Snails I gently remove when they are resting so they don't 'bubble' and place them in nearby woodland.
(bubbling is like a foam produced by snails when they feel threatened)

Are the pellet's safe for the birds that will eat them? Yes hedgehogs did eat them until people killed them off with slug pellets.
